Synthesis of Ketones from Palm Fatty Acids Over Layered Double Hydroxide Mg/Al/Cu Catalyst

Abstract The synthesis of ketones from C18:1 fatty acid using the decarboxylation method has been carried out to increase added value oil palm derivative products. One products is Crude Palm Oil, which can be converted into acids through triglyceride hydrolysis process. Currently, are most potential environmentally friendly raw material in Indonesia. This research aims synthesize under different types and catalyst concentrations. Ketone compounds were synthesized a base solid layered double hydroxide based on Mg/Al/Cu because it does not produce by-products that become pollutants. ketone product was analyzed Fehling test, Tollens FTIR. results showed success test red brick precipitate did form also indicated no silver mirror formation. Meanwhile, FTIR presence at peak frequencies 1697–1710 cm -1 . study confirms produced have materials for diesel fuel, lubricants, surfactants.
